| very pleased with the coyote glazes we bought..8-) |

just unloaded a glaze firing containing mostly a combination of Coyote glazes adn ones I made. And *boy* (!!!) am I pleased and excited! I had a hint at it off teh testers, and was even more pleased. Under the cut for photos and text:
</a> We FINALLY have a purple that is good and reliable and consitant. I was hope for a bit more bleed throught the white band, but that is okay. The purple is not quite as fluid as most of my glazes, which woudl help explain that. I applied the normal amount. And I dont think it looks bad.
This is the shino glaze, with a brown liner that I make. The shino is dipped one layer. I love the color and just how seneitive it is to surface texture and throwing marks. I really LVOE this result all around! Color, sensitivity, ease of application. Wooo! 8-)
This form is a project I set myself in rapid throwning. the idea was to se eif I could throw a viable form and attach a extruded handle in 3-5 minutes, from blank lump to finished form, I dont think I did too badly. this too is the shino glaze, to take advantge of the more prominant throwing marks.
Same idea as above, but utilizing the blue-purple glaze. Gotta be careful and not apply this glaze too thick as it can run.>
I hope you all enjoy these pix. I was tremely happy with the results, an despecailly geeting teh purple to work consistanly, and teh results of the shino. |

really cool! The purple didn't come through in the pic here. It looks more black and white. I would love to find a stable purple underglaze!!!!
Wish you could see it in person! I tlooks So good in teh sun. I was afraid it mighr darken, but then it IS a dark glaze. What about the Concepts underslaze? Yeah, tehy ar e mailoica colors, but still..I use theri light purple a lot on my colored fairie coins.
I hace tried them. The red is really great but the purple still sucks when used with a clear glaze. It still streaks with light and dark. Not even colors at all. I have tried using a light gray as an under color for it and putting several layers on but it still is uneven. I cringed evey time I had to do a plate or goblet with purple!Knowing it wouldn't come out to my liking.
I really like that shino a lot. Would it bother you if I picked up some of those glazes from Coyote as well? I really want a shino that looks gas fired. I also saw one on their size that is aqua with texture (I think) that might be good for my steampunk tiles I was thinking of doing later in the year. I really want to find a mat sea foam green with some rusty, industrial glazes. Something that would pass for 60's colors. Do you know what I mean?
Wouldnt bother me a bit! 8-) I am glad you like them...I am getting a gal of the shino, for sure! A warning..they might not exactly come out as portrayed on theri test tiles..differant firng techniques, differant clays underneath the glazes..etc. Handling can make a differance..BUT they wont be THAT off, either! I myself like the differances, an dam pleased with the out come. Espcially the shino!\ I agrre with you in tha tregard..damn near looks reduced! That IS a thin application: one fast dip. ADN it was on teh Sedona Red clay.
Do you add any water to the glazes or just as is? Those are usually brush on glazes, aren't they?
I like a lot of the colors on their website. I took a look yesterday and saw a few that might be interesting to try like the yellow and that aqua (like I mentioned). Some are pretty expensive but others aren't so bad. I want to think about it a bit and get some more stock up before I start getting new glazes though.
No water was needed, and I brush 3 lawers on the shino tester, and single dipped teh mugs with the shino. I have included a list of all Coyotes glaze characteristics and application..it is most helpful. http://www.coyoteclay.com/glaze%20tips.htm
I love the way these look! Thank you so much for posting!!!
Youre quite welcome! 8-) Actually, I like being able to show my friends at a long distance whats going on in my studio, how the work is going. These new glazes are gonna be a real step forward, I think, for what I am doing. I am eager to se ehow the shino loks on my more texturally involved pieces, like the ring oil lamps. Or the goblets.
Awesome glazes, Hoar! I really like the Shino.
Thak you! So do I! I have plans for the shino, definately. 8-) I have picturing this n various of my more textued pieces. | |
